An LGBT Jobfair in 2009? You must be joking!

Looking after the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community is not the first thing on the mind of employers in London this year. The City is freaking out, public organisations are cutting back wildly, banks have ceased to exist, employment agencies are doing crosswords.

What chances for an LGBT Jobfair to run in this climate? Janie and I felt a bit gloomy, especially when we started to get not-this-year responses from previous clients, even ones we thought would want to make a statement of how cool they are even in the bad times.

But, you know what, it's working! Look at our list of who's coming, and we have a bunch more making up their minds, two requests just this morning from grade A employers with names that count.

So we're delighted. We won't have the same numbers as last year, when we had 26 employers filling that big room at the Royal National Hotel, but we think that even existing is the biggest statement of all. We think we'll have round 15 employers, with a range of work to suit just about everyone.

So come along, tell your friends about it, join the Facebook group, and support the community that is being supported by the employers on the list. Remember, we have no funding, no EU support or whatever, this is all paid for by the employers.

I'm going to talk interesting things on this blog, round LGBT people at work, keep your eye on it, and contribute, please, not just in comments. I'll post interesting things on it from anyone.

Let the good times roll.
